Attitudinal Healing Principle #4: We can let go of the PAST and of the FUTURE. T his is perhaps one of the principles that many people relate to the most and have such a hard time staying with. We are asked, here, to be fully open to the present moment…to pay attention, be mindful, of NOW. THE PASTWe must get rid of our thoughts of our past and how we perceived a situation to be, especially those that are not peace filled memories. When we are focusing on the past those thoughts can become patterns of belief and then patterns of behavior in the present. Do you continue to think about your past…over and over again? If so, the past is recreated again in our present experience because we continue to act / react as if the past was still here. In this way we are living in the past while we are acting in the present…and we are robbing ourselves of our present joy! And we continue to believe that we are a victim of the past (which, by the way we can not change the past…but we keep trying to think of ways to do so). As a victim we are stuck in the past and can not move forward to heal. We need to heal the wounded “child” that was hurt in the past. This does not mean that we say what was done was right or not hurtful…but we do not let it hurt us any more. We are asked to be willing to give up the old feelings that we had in those past situations…feelings that we might believe we have a “right” to feel. After all, “That person did that to me,” you might say. With this principle we are asked to let go of the past feelings, once and for all…and choose peace instead. “I can choose peace instead of this” A Course In Miracles tells us. A great question to ask is, “Would I rather be right or be peaceful?” Which is more important to you? The world will tell us to be “right” but our spirit tells us to choose peace. Being right can actually mean conflict inside you as you feel the stress the past is still bringing to you in the present moment. Which do you want to feel?

THE FUTURE What do you worry about that could happen, or not happen, in your future? Not having enough money, your health, family, the earth, world peace, etc.? Do you know what FEAR stands for? It’s False Evidence Appearing Real. That means that we can be worried now about something that might NOT even happen…and again this worrying robs us of our present joy! It takes trust in our spiritual beliefs to let go of the future and be in the present…that all will work out for our highest good. There is a saying, “Let God handles the details”…and stop worrying.

PRESENT MOMENT Why do we want to be in the PRESENT MOMENT? Because this is when we can truly only feel love and make a choice to choose love and peace over conflict (stress) and fear. Staying in the present moment involves being honest with ourselves about what we want to experience…and we can ask ourselves, “Would I rather be right (justified that the past was painful and continue to dwell on it…or worry about what might NOT happen in the future) or would I rather be peaceful NOW?” Attitudinal Healing teaches us to stay in the present moment to experience the richness of life and love that is NOW. No matter the question…Love is THE Answer…moment by moment!

Some concepts are taken from, To See Differently, by Susan Trout (out of print).

With love, Susan Thiem

Action Items for this next month:

1. TO OTHERS: Continue to give 1-3 acts of LOVE everyday. Thoughts of LOVE counts as acts of LOVE! And even if how you act is not accepted or noticed by others, it is your awareness and giving of love that matters.

2. FROM OTHERS: Continue looking for expressions of LOVE from others: a smile or hello (this is connection), an act of friendship or support, a compliment, a phone call from a friend or a call you make that is happily accepted…and many more. Try to be aware of 1-3 acts of LOVE essence from others everyday.

3. For Principle #4: Visualize yourself as a child (this is your inner child now) and re-parent yourself by reassuring your child and comforting him/her by telling them that you unconditionally love him…give him/her, now in the present, that which you needed in the past. Reconnect with your spiritual source and know that we are forgiven and forgive others (or else we stay imprisoned in the past).

Affirmations for daily use:“I open my self to accept love. I feel love today. I give love today.”“I am full of love. I feel joy. I am at peace.”“I am fully present as an ambassador for Love.”“God and I are one.” For Principle #4: “I am whole, safe, and complete. I am living in the PRESENT MOMENT…for my highest good.”Suggestion: Repeat the affirmation 3 times and tap your heart chakra (middle of chest) at the same time. “I am more than my body; I am free, as God created me.” ACIM

MEDITATION MOMENTS This is a new monthly segment in our 2009 Ezine with information about different types of meditation. Attitudinal Healing wants to support you in learning more about getting in touch with your love essence, realizing your connection with God, obtaining clarity, and reducing stress, to name a few benefits. Meditation is a sacred process where the body learns to become more relaxed and breathing becomes slower and deeper. We learn to go within and be in touch with the presence of our higher power and guidance. It is a time for our mind to be focused on our spiritual selves and not on our worldly ego, to realize more LOVE and PEACE…the goals of Attitudinal Healing. Please do not judge your ability to meditate but let it be the best you can do in that moment knowing you ARE releasing your “doing self” to your “being” self. Any effort to do so is perfect! Basics To Do:Begin by sitting (in a seat or on the floor) in a comfortable position with feet on the floor (or cross legged) and your hands comfortable in your lap. Be dressed in comfy, loose clothing if possible. In any meditation, we want to be focused on the NOW moment; if your mind wanders to other thoughts, simply bring your attention back to the meditation, without judgment. Your time in meditation may be just a couple minutes or 30 minutes or more. Any amount of time is helpful to your goal of inner peace. Do it anytime, anywhere…even the bathroom if you are working or “out” and need a break! Start NOW!

To Start: As you begin, start to pay attention to your breathing as we learned in January 2009. Repeat at least 4 times until you are feeling more relaxed: Breathe in – out – in – out: IN, count 4 – HOLD, count 7 – OUT, count 8…. Or OUT 8 – IN 4 – HOLD 7 – OUT 8…. Do this as many as 5 times a day.

Resources for Meditations: Meditation for Optimum Health, Jon Kabat-Zinn and Andrew Weil (many recordings can be found at local stores by each of these world renown experts) http://www.mindfulnesstapes.comm/ . Steven Halpern http://www.innerpeacemusic.com/. Joan Borysenko SELF-GUIDED / Chanting MeditationSelf-guided meditation suggests that a person focuses on what YOU want to focus on…that which is personal to you. You may chant a positive and/or spiritual phrase over and over again, either out loud or inside your head. Let the outside world go by and continue to feel inner peace as a result of your focus. Some suggestions are: · Ooommm· Thy will be done.· Peace, joy, love.· I am at peace. · I love and accept myself and / or (name) _________________.· Any of the Affirmations for daily use from above:o I open my self to accept love. I feel love today. I give love today.o God and I are one.o I am whole, safe, and complete. o I am living in the PRESENT MOMENT…for my highest good.

The Mini Course for Life …now in book form. - A MUST HAVE to transform your life in 18 days!!!Finding Our Way Home … a series of intimate and personal stories to warm your heart and help to heal your journey. One of our readers said: I am enjoying Jerry's new book. It's really one of the only things keeping me sane these days! Remember Jerry’s other powerful books such as the original, Love is Letting Go of Fear, Love is the Answer and many more you can find at your local book store.

(Formerly the INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR ATTITUDINAL HEALING) September 2008. After much research and deliberation, the original Center for Attitudinal Healing in Sausalito, CA unanimously adopted the new name "CorStone." Based on a Latin root for "heart" that appears in many languages, CorStone means a "strong foundation for the heart." We feel it serves as a metaphor for everything we do, especially helping each other lessen feelings of isolation, let go of fears, and develop confidence in our own insights about how to best help ourselves and others. Our expanding work will have a broad reach across many arenas, but at its core it remains the work of supporting people's hearts as they make their way through life's greatest challenges. We want to assure you that while we intend to expand our reach into new areas, our goal is to build upon - not replace - the fundamental principles and services upon which our organization was founded. Jerry and Diane and the Board join us in thanking you for your support as we strengthen our organization and welcome your continued participation in this heart-supporting journey. We hope that you'll visit our new website at http://www.corstone.org/ for more details. Steve Leventhal, Executive
